Amazon Invests Another $1.9 Billion in the Delivery Service Partner Program with New Safety Initiatives and AI-Powered Technology

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) today announced it is investing another $1.9 billion in the Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program in 2027, helping DSPs increase Delivery Associate (DA) pay to a national average of nearly $24/hour. Amazon’s safety investments and DSP leadership are delivering results, with serious crashes down more than 23%. AI-powered tools like Wellspring and Amazon’s Smart Delivery Glasses are making deliveries faster and more accurate. Amazon is also committing $70 million over the next five years towards community impact initiatives led by DSP owners.

The following is a blog post written by Beryl Tomay, Vice President, Transportation at Amazon.

Every year, we bring thousands of Delivery Service Partner (DSP) owners from across the U.S. and Canada together in Las Vegas for Ignite Live, our annual conference to share what’s next for the program and celebrate everything this community has accomplished. It’s one of my favorite moments of the year, and I’m always proud to see so many entrepreneurs who have built their own businesses through this program come together in one place.

This year at Ignite Live, we shared updates about how we’re continuing to invest in DSP owners and their teams. Here are a few of the things I’m most excited about.

Safety is always our top priority

Our overarching goal has always been to build the safest delivery network in the world. Since 2022, we’ve invested more than $543 million in safety initiatives, programs, and technology for DSP owners and their teams. Combined with the strong safety leadership of DSP owners themselves, those investments are delivering real results: serious vehicle crashes dropped more than 23% across our network last year.

We’re continuing that progress with new safety technology designed to give DSP’s Delivery Associates (DA) more visibility on the road. For example, we’re rolling out new surround-view cameras that identify vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians from all directions and notify DAs. By the end of this year, the technology will be installed in 50% of Rivian electric delivery vehicles across the network.

We’re also launching additional dynamic hazard alerts in the Amazon Delivery App, so DAs get real-time notifications about accidents, road closures, and construction ahead on their route. In addition, navigation will now automatically adjust routes during inclement weather or when hazards are detected, without the DA having to take any action.

Thanks to Netradyne’s in-vehicle safety cameras, DSP owners have real-time safety technology that help protect their DAs on the road. Now, we’re using more advanced AI techniques to identify driving trends that are more likely to lead to accidents and surfacing these insights to DSPs so that owners can provide early coaching for their teams. These efforts, combined with DSP owners’ safety-first leadership, are what’s driving continued safety gains across our network.

Investing in DSP owners and their teams

This year, we’re investing an additional $1.9 billion in the DSP program, including support for DSP owners’ ability to attract and retain talent. We anticipate that over the past three years these investments will have helped DSP owners increase driver pay by an average of 16% nationwide, with national average earnings rising by roughly another $1 to nearly $24 per hour. The increased rates we pay DSPs will continue to support them in recruiting and retaining high-performing teams, which is essential for building sustainable delivery businesses. Specifics will vary by DSP and geography, as each DSP determines how best to invest in their business and teams. All DSPs provide healthcare coverage and paid time off for their full-time DAs, and many also offer 401(k) plans, tuition reimbursement and other benefits. These are decisions DSP owners make as employers, and our investments are designed to help support those efforts.

AI and technology that learns from every delivery

We continue to utilize technology, in the form of hardware and AI-backed software systems, to help DSP owners run stronger operations and improve the daily delivery experience for DAs.

Our generative AI mapping technology, known as Wellspring, keeps getting smarter with every delivery. It learns from each trip to a location and builds an increasingly accurate model of the physical world over time. Since 2024, we’ve identified 202 million parking locations, mapped 2.8 million building entrances, and cataloged 85,000 mailrooms and lockers. For DSP owners, this technology helps their DAs more efficiently and accurately deliver to customers.

We’re also investing in AI-based routing technology that dynamically adjusts for real-world conditions, accounting for considerations such as reduced visibility after sunset, or the extra time a downtown delivery might need to find parking during busy lunch hours.

Last year, we introduced Amazon Smart Delivery Glasses, AI-powered wearable technology designed with input from hundreds of DAs. The glasses use computer vision to display real-time navigation suggestions and delivery details directly in a DA’s line of sight, creating a hands-free experience that helps them stay focused on their surroundings rather than looking down at a phone. In addition to adding new features, such as an LED headlamp, hands-free scanning, and proactive address verification, we will continue to scale out the deployment and expect to have more than 20,000 devices in the field by the end of 2027.

How DSP owners are giving back — and our commitment to go further together

DSP owners consistently go beyond delivery — donating school supplies, supporting local hospitals, and stepping up during disaster relief. To help scale that impact, we’re committing $70 million over the next five years toward community initiatives led by DSPs and supported by Amazon.

A key piece of that commitment is Amazon Local Good, which turns the Last Mile delivery network into a community logistics engine that helps nonprofits get donated goods to people who need them, at no cost to the nonprofit. In 2025 alone, DSPs partnering with Amazon Local Good completed 4,800 routes, distributing over 8 million essential items and over 4 million meals. With this latest investment, we expect to transport and deliver over 150 million essential items, including meals, reaching thousands of community members every day over the next five years.

A focus on community can also be seen in the ongoing Together We Give Back to School campaign, where DSP owners are rallying to support more than 100,000 students and 1,000 teachers by donating over one million school supply items. Those numbers speak for themselves and reflect the commitment of DSP owners across the network.

Eight years of building together

Eight years in, the DSP program has grown into something bigger than a delivery network. It’s thousands of small businesses creating real economic opportunities in their communities while raising the bar on safety and delivery quality every year.

Every day, I see firsthand the dedication of our DSP partners and their DAs, who consistently step up to take care of customers across the country. They deliver more than packages – they deliver smiles to Amazon customers. The success of the DSP program reflects what happens when small businesses are given real opportunities and genuine support. To all the DSPs in our network and your teams, thank you for everything you do for Amazon customers and our communities.
